Home Bancorp: Is This Undervalued Bank a Hidden Gem or a Credit Risk in Disguise?

October 21, 2026

Home Bancorp trades around $66 per share, and while it is not near its yearly lows, its valuation may still attract value investors. The key question is whether solid profitability can outweigh emerging credit concerns. The latest third-quarter 2026 results delivered net income of $10.1 million, or $1.28 per share, down from $11.6 million in the previous quarter. Net interest income remained stable at $35.9 million, but the net interest margin slipped to 4.19% as deposit costs and troubled loans put pressure on earnings. The biggest warning sign is credit quality. Nonperforming assets climbed 37% during the quarter to $53.7 million, following six loan relationships totaling $19.5 million being placed on nonaccrual status. Management does not currently expect sizable losses from these loans, but further deterioration could change that outlook. There are positives, too. The company declared another quarterly dividend of $0.32 per share, following a 3% increase earlier this year and a 7% increase in 2025. Its annualized dividend yield is approximately 1.9%. A relatively modest earnings valuation and consistent dividends support the investment case. However, rising bad loans and an upcoming chief executive transition could limit a near-term recovery.
